The annual ‘Black Cherry Fair’ has been taking place in the market town of Chertsey for many hundreds of years, and this year, local business Lodge Brothers Funeral Directors had a stall. But unlike most others on the Abbeyfields site, they weren’t selling anything!

District Manager, Richard Leachman, and one of his team of Funeral Arrangers, Tom Hoyles, gave away nearly 300 bottles of water to passers-by on what was another warm summer’s day.

Conversations did follow, many of them surrounding the topic of personal funeral planning.

St David’s Day Marked at Lodge Brothers & Wickendens Ealing

Ealing branch of Lodge Brothers & Wickendens marked St David’s Day this weekend with a colourful display of daffodils alongside the traditional Welsh flag, in memory of past clients of Welsh origin.

District Manager Paul Bye explains “It’s important that all our branches respect the multi cultural communities they serve and hang flags on as many public holidays as possible. This has become a recognised event in the local community and locals now look out for the change of the window displays.”

Funds Raised for Home Start by Lodge Brothers Walton

The staff at Lodge Brothers Walton were delighted to welcome Carol Hodges (Manager) and Gill Robinson (Family Support Coordinator) from the charity ‘Home Start’ to the branch, to present them with a cheque for £150 for monies raised with donations from the local community.

Both Ann McMurray (Branch Arranger) and Sharon Brunn (Relief Branch Arranger), made holly wreaths at Christmas time, which were available from the Walton branch for anybody who wanted to remember their loved one. Whilst it was not a requirement, people still generously made donations in return for taking a wreath home with them.

Ann said “It is a difficult time of year for many families who have lost a loved one, and therefore we wanted to help them by providing something special which could either be taken home as a table decoration, or even placed in memory of someone in a special place.”

Sharon chose the charity Home Start as the worthy cause to receive the monies raised.

Lodge Brothers funeral directors Ashford and Funeral directors Woking and many other Lodge Brothers branches get behind several important campaigns where lives are changed or saved such as the Road Safety Week is the UK’s biggest road safety event, involving thousands of schools, organisations and community groups every year. Set up in 1997, the event is coordinated annually by Brake each November, and aims to encourage grassroots action on road safety and raise awareness about the part we can all play in preventing tragedies and making roads safer. Road Safety Week is taking place 17-23 November 2014, it is asking everyone to ‘look out for each other’ on roads, because being selfish can easily lead to tragedy.

Particularly calling on drivers to protect people on foot and bike by slowing down to 20 in communities, looking twice and taking it slow at junctions and bends, and giving people plenty of room. Specsavers in St Neots are holding a raffle to raise funds for this excellent charity. T L Cobbold are very proud to be support such an important project.

Lodge Brothers are passionate about making people aware in order to save lives.

Lodge Brothers all around the UK Funeral Directors Chertsey and Funeral Directors Englefield Green know what a special time it is at Christmas especially if you have lost a loved one, this can be one of the most painful occasions to celebrate without your loved one. They understand the importance of acknowledging that special person and have many different ways of including you to be able to celebrate their life.

Tree of remembrance

From the 1st December our annual tree of remembrance will be in our reception area.  If we have cared for you in the last 4 years you will have been sent some tags. Perhaps your bereavement was more than 4 years ago, it may even be that we ddidn’tlook after the funeral arrangements for you at your time of loss, regardless, you are very welcome to call in or ring us and we will happily supply you with a tag so that you too can write your own message to someone you have lost and remember at this time of year.
